Hi, I’m ojachan 🙂 Today’s lesson is; Koko Soko Asoko

Do you know “こそあど詞 ko-so-a-do-kotoba” ? We sometimes call it 指示詞shijishi /指示語shijigo.

ここ is casual expression and point out a close place.
こちら is polite expression and point out a close place or a person.
こっち is more casual expression as ここ.

ここは　わたしの　学校です。
ここは　わたしの　がっこうです。
koko wa watashi no gakkou desu
This is my school.

こちらは　わたしの　会社です。
こちらは　わたしの　かいしゃです。
kochira wa watashi no kaisya desu
This is my company.

こちらは　わたしの　友人です。
こちらは　わたしの　ゆうじんです。
kochira wa watashi no yuujin desu
This is my friend.

こっちは　お手洗いです。
こっちは　おてあらいです。
kocchi-wa otearai-desu
This is a bathroom.

「そ」there/ that way
そこ is casual expression and point out the place.
そちら is polite expression and point out the place or the person. It is used for the place near the listener.
そっち is more casual expression as そこ.

そこは　美しい　場所です。
そこは　うつくしい　ばしょです。
soko wa utsukushii basco desu
It is a beautiful place.

そちらは　彼女の　教室です。
そちらは　かのじょの　きょうしつです。
sochira wa kanojo no kyoushitsu desu
It is her classroom.

そちらは　わたしの　先生です。
そちらは　わたしの　せんせいです。
Sochira wa watashi no sensei desu
She is my teacher.

そっちは　食堂です。
そっちは　しょくどうです。
Socchi wa shokudou desu
That is a cafeteria.

あそこ is casual expression and point out a distant place.
あちら is polite expression and point out a distant place or a person.
あっち is more casual expression as あっち.

あそこは　新大阪駅では　ありません。
あそこは　しんおおさかえきでは　ありません。
Asoko wa shinoosakaeki dewa arimasen
That is not Shin-Osaka station.

あちらは　駅ですか。
あちらは　えきですか。
Achira wa eki desuka
Is that a station ?

あちらは　あなたの　両親ですか。
あちらは　あなたの　りょうしんですか。
Achira wa anata-no ryoushin desuka
Are they your parents?

あっちは　階段です。
あっちは　かいだんです。
Acchi wa kaidan desu
There are stairs over there.

どちら is polite expression and is used when you ask the place or the person.
どなた is polite expression and is used when you ask the person.
どっち is more casual expression as どこ.

かいぎしつは　どこですか。
Kaigishitsu wa doko desuka
Where is the meeting room?

あの可愛い　女性はどなたですか。
あの　かわいい　じょせいは　どなたですか。
ano kawaii jyosei wa donata desuka
Who is that cute woman?

あなたの　お国は　どちらですか。
あなたの　おくには　どちらですか。
Anata-no okuni wa dochira desuka
Where are you from?

バンコクです。
ばんこくです。
Bankoku desu
